The Product Developers/Innovators Track of the LEA-WH program is designed for professionals from diverse disciplines such as engineering, clinical sciences, public health, social sciences, business, or technology who are developing women’s health innovations or products. This track aims to enable 5-10 products to reach market testing, establish 5-10 startups, and file 5-10 patent applications by 2033, while fostering an innovation ecosystem through continued mentorship, partnerships, and policy influence.
Be mid-career researchers or innovators (typically 3–8 years post-terminal degree) already leading or contributing substantially to research or innovation in women’s health.
Hold a terminal degree relevant to women’s health innovation (PhD, MD/MBChB/BPharm/BDS + MPH/MSc, or MSc equivalent with a demonstrated product or innovation in development).
Demonstrate a track record of excellence — evidenced through peer-reviewed publications, patents, prototypes, funded research, or product development in women’s health.
Have a clear concept or proposal for a women’s health research project or innovation to be developed during the program.
Be citizens of and currently working in Africa (citizenship and residence may differ but both must be in eligible countries. Citizens returning to their African regions, must show a letter of commitment to continue working in Africa either from their own organization or a partner organization).
Be proficient in English — reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension — as all program activities will be conducted in English.
Have institutional support from their home organization confirming commitment to enable participation (time release, mentorship engagement, and post-fellowship implementation support).
Be committed to contributing to the regional ecosystem, through collaboration, mentorship, and alumni engagement beyond the program period.
Open to all genders working in women’s health.
