Entry Requirements

  • The common regulations for all Doctor of Philosophy degrees in the University shall apply.
  • Master of Science degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) or any other institution recognized by the JKUAT senate.
  • Master’s degree in any other health related field that is equivalent to Master of Science in Epidemiology and Biostatistics
  • In addition to the above, the applicant should also have satisfied the minimum entry requirements for admission to an undergraduate degree programme.

Course Duration

  • The Doctor of Philosophy in Epidemiology and Biostatistics programme shall be pursued for a minimum period of three (3) academic years (at least thirty- six (36) months) from the date of registration comprising and shall not exceed sixty (60) months for full time.
  • An academic year shall consist of two semesters each of fourteen (14) weeks of lectures and an additional two (2) weeks of examinations at the end of each semester. After successful completion of coursework, the learner will proceed to write research proposal and thesis.
  • No candidate for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy shall be registered as a full- time student for more than five (5) academic years (sixty (60) months) without submitting a thesis, except by permission of the University Senate.
  • The Doctor of Philosophy in Epidemiology and Biostatistics programme shall consist of coursework, examination, and thesis
  • The programme shall be pursued as either full time or part time

Attach Documents

Along with the application form, applicants must attach:
  * A recent passport photo
  * Copies of all academic certificates and transcripts 
  * Any preceding certificates

Admissions Fees

Once all forms are completed and all necessary documents attached, applicants will proceed to any JKUAT office for payment of admissions fees (KES 1500).

Payment Receipt

Upon payment, applicants will receive an original receipt from JKUAT, which must be attached to one of the duly filled application forms. The other two copies should have copies of the receipt attached.

Collect Forms

Collect:
   * The three copies of the form
   * The two copies of receipt
   * Copy of Photo ID (National ID or Passport)

Submit Documents

The completed forms, along with attachments, should be submitted to the KEMRI Graduate School (KGS) Admissions Office, KEMRI HQ.

*** The certificates up to and              including secondary school certificate (KCSE)

** Applicants must include a certificate of recognition and equation issued by the Commission for University Education (CUE) for qualifications attained outside Kenya.
