KEMRI GRADUATE SCHOOL CELEBRATES 22 GRADUATES AT THE 45TH JKUAT–KEMRI JOINT GRADUATION CEREMONY

The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) Graduate School, in yet another memorable occasion of marking milestones and honoring remarkable achievements, proudly celebrates the achievements of 22 exemplary postgraduate scholars who graduated during the 45th JKUAT–KEMRI Joint Graduation Ceremony held on 5th December 2025. These postgraduates have demonstrated remarkable resilience, excellence, and purpose, emerging as the next generation of leaders in epidemiology, public health, molecular medicine, medical virology, and international health.

The group comprises 7 PhD graduates and 15 Master’s graduates from the School of Public Health and the School of Biomedical Sciences. Their collective and individual research demonstrates a strong commitment to tackling real-world health challenges and advancing both Kenya’s national and global health priorities.

PhD Graduates

The following were conferred with their doctoral degrees:

  • Doctor of Philosophy in Epidemiology: Dr. Joyce Osebe Kenyanya, Dr. Titus Kibet Suge
  • Doctor of Philosophy in International Health: Dr. Omambia Salim Matagi
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health: Dr. Kihara Eunice Njeri, Dr. Kenneth Mugambi Langakuo, Dr. Victor Otieno Mudhune, Dr. Janet Mbinya Masaku.

Master’s Graduates

The following were conferred with their master’s degrees:

  • Master of Science in Molecular Medicine: Mr. Naftaly Gachau Mureithi, Mr. Wafula Samuel Omari, Ms. Prisca Oboo Bwana, Ms. Gloria Kemunto, and Mr. Fred Owuor Owino.
  • Master of Science in Public Health: Ms. Mary Matsezi Keah–Otieno, Ms. Maru Lorna Chemutai, Ms. Mbogo Susan Muthoni, and Ms. Gloria Chelangat Magut
  • Master of Science in Medical Virology: Ms. Mercy Hokah Kibathi
  • Master of Science in Epidemiology: Ms. Maluki Jacinta Mumbe, Ms. Jacinta Simalo Teeka, Ms. Maina Charity Muringo, Ms. Joyce Wali Mwakishalua, and Ms. Rose Aluoch Ojuok

The Acting Director, Research Capacity Building and Director of the KEMRI Graduate School, Dr. Martin Bundi, who led the institution’s delegation at the ceremony, congratulated the graduands on successfully completing their postgraduate studies and expressed his optimism for a brighter future, filled with impactful contributions to research, science, and national development.

“Your journey reflects outstanding dedication, perseverance, and a strong drive to push the frontiers of medical science. We are confident that your research and innovations will shape healthcare, inform policy decisions, and deliver meaningful improvements to communities in Kenya and across the region,” Dr. Bundi stated. He added that the successes of the graduates will continue to enhance the influence and value of the long-standing JKUAT–KEMRI collaboration.
